As we adjourn for our October half term break, Year 1 students and teachers have been reflecting on all they have learnt and achieved already this school year.
The Year 1 team have been working closely together to keep things relevant and cross curricular in our lessons, activities and opportunities in this first year of Key Stage 1.
Some highlights so far during our Toys topic have included: our visit to Guliver Theatre to watch a classic 'toy story' The Velveteen Rabbit, learning about about the history of teddy bears while sharing our own teddies with each other, sorting old and new toys according to materials, reading and writing instructions to make play dough and paper airplanes, and beginning to make our own toys.
While Toys is an dynamic topic to begin the school year, we could not ignore the changes around us. We also took time to marvel at the autumn treasures and effects of these seasonal changes. Through Maths, Art and Science activities we have developed our understanding and formed connections to nature.
Looking ahead to the busy weeks following our holiday, we are very excited to invite parents to share in our festival of learning, traditional games afternoon and our nativity production. These activities provide us all the opportunity to work as a team to highlight and celebrate the High Performance Learning happening in Year 1.
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new teaching assistant, Miss Aniela Masna to our Year 1 team. 1R warmly welcomed Miss Aniela to their class, and they wish Miss Sylwia all the best in her new role at Limanowskiego.
Have a safe and happy half term holiday.
Kind wishes,
Angela Childs
