WHO WILL BENEFIT MOST FROM OUR PRE-IB YEAR?

Whether covering gaps in subject knowledge, targeting English language fluency, or building confidence with a more independent and analytical learning style, our one-year preparatory course provides students with tailored support to achieve their academic goals. The Pre-IB Programme is an excellent fit for students who:

  • Joined TBS Warsaw in Year 11, missing out on the full GCSE programme
  • Need English language support to achieve fluency, particularly in writing skills
  • Joined TBS Warsaw directly from the Polish system, particularly after the first year of Liceum
  • Are accustomed to educational systems that prioritise rote learning above analytical thinking
  • Require additional academic support in order to successfully tackle the challenges of the IBDP

PRE-IB CURRICULUM

Our Pre-IB Programme prepares students for a successful transition to the IBDP by reflecting its curriculum style and approach.

We combine IGCSE and IB subjects to build strong foundations and cover any gaps in knowledge. At the heart of our programme is a “Critical Thinking” module, which enables students to develop crucial analytical and reasoning skills. All students must take Mathematics and Science in a pathway designed to lead to IGCSE qualification. Our learners also receive additional support in any topics that are unfamiliar.

Separate English pathways are available for fluent speakers and for students who require support to develop advanced English writing and reading comprehension skills, including the ability to use academic vocabulary and understand literary and journalistic texts. Additionally, our pre-IB students may choose to study a second language: Polish, French, Spanish or German.

PERSONALISED LEARNING

We know that no two students are alike, which is why our Pre-IB Programme is designed to address the individual needs of our learners.

Individual Study Periods give students extra time for carrying out independent work, taking extra English lessons and focusing on challenging subjects. In our IGCSE courses, the decision of whether to write exams is based on each student’s progress in December; learners who will not write IGCSE exams follow a personalised curriculum in the summer term.

One of the benefits of the IBDP is that it allows students to build a tailored pathway of courses chosen from six subject groups, with three taken at a higher level. Throughout the year, our Pre-IB Programme introduces students to a wide variety of topics. Our students can explore courses in subject groups such as Individuals and Societies (Economics, Business Management, History, Geography, Psychology); Experimental Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science); Mathematics; and the Arts (Visual Arts, Music). This encourages students to discover their strengths and interests, enabling them to make more informed choices when entering the IBDP.
