Teachers are just ordinary people, with ordinary lives and ordinary families the same as everyone else, but they have extraordinary jobs. Many jobs are a means to an end i.e. we work to earn money to pay for the things we want to do, our lifestyle. Teaching, on a bad day, can be like that! But for 95% of the time it is a joy. Most teachers I’ve met love nurturing and guiding children towards a happy and successful future. Certainly in this school, The British School, Warsaw, I can confidently say that all of the teachers I’ve met love their classes and are personally proud when individuals achieve a goal, climb to another level or demonstrate their high performance learning. This is what makes the job a vocation, we are loaned your children each day and they become our family and we enjoy their development and successes. However we do know the children belong to you! And we do know that any successes would not be possible without your help. Education is a joint effort, and sure, we are the professionals, we know things, we have studied hard to find the best ways to inspire your children and we have tricks of the trade but your help and approval really makes the difference.
Next week we are having Parent Forum Meetings. For an hour each day (8.30am -9.30am) we will meet with parents of each year group to discuss how we think things are going. Monday is for Year 4 parents, Tuesday is for Year 5 parents, Wednesday is for Year 6 parents, Thursday is for Year 3 parents and Friday is for Year 2 parents.
As mentioned above, education is really a partnership between home and school, and we would like your input. The idea of this is for you to let us know what you think works well in the school, what you liked and would like to see more of, what could be improved and what needs more explanation.
We look forward to seeing you and sharing ideas.
Sincerely,
Michael Waterhouse
