  • Nieves Estrada

Getting to know you … Nieves, Class Friend Co-Ordinator for Limanowskiego

Where would you call home?

My hometown is Seville, in the South of Spain, where I lived since I was 9 and where my parents live. I went to University there and I worked there until we moved here. I love the sunlight in my city. The weather is totally different from here and some people get surprised when they discovered my name (Nieves) means “Snow” in Spanish.

What languages can you speak?

Spanish, English, a bit of French and I’m trying with Polish (not a lot of success until now but I keep trying and my teacher has not given up yet).

What brings you to Warsaw and what was your journey to get here?

My family and I came to Warsaw nearly 2 years ago as my husband was offered a job here and it was an opportunity for the children to experience living abroad and learning different cultures and languages. It was a difficult decision for me to temporary quit my job as a Telecommunication Engineer in Spain and go to a different country far from my net of family and friends, but Warsaw is very welcoming and for the moment I don’t regret it.

Who have you got at school here?

Two sons: Manuel aged 7 and Guillermo aged 4.

Any other children?

A third son, Jose, not old enough for the school yet.

What do you do with the PTA and how did you get involved in the PTA?

As I was not working at that moment, I wanted to get involved at school. My children also love to see their mum around the school. I was told that there was a position available as Class Friend Coordinator and I decided to take the role sharing with Nancy.

Best thing about volunteering with the PTA?

To see how children enjoy so much the events (International Fair, book sale, discos…) and having the opportunity to meet people from different countries and cultures and work together.

What would you say to somebody thinking about volunteering for the PTA?

It’s a nice way to do something for the children, there are lots of ways to collaborate, don’t be shy and ask to find the one that best fits to your interests.

What’s your favourite thing to do with your family in Warsaw?

We love going out to its nice restaurants (we have our favourites but also like to explore new ones) and visit its beautiful parks (just walking, riding our bikes, or even sledges, depending on the weather). Each season is different in Warsaw so it’s good to make the most of each one.

Can you tell us a joke?

Do you know what falls in winter but never gets hurt?

Snow :-)
