I was educated at Monmouth School, the oldest school in Wales and the leading all-boys Welsh boarding school. I read Pharmacology at Bristol University before training as a science teacher gaining myPGCE at Bristol University in 1997. My experiences drawn from the time as a pupil at an exceptional boarding school led me to want to teach. Since then I have worked in leading schools in the UK including Magdalen College School, Oxford the top all-boys’ school in the UK at the time and St Paul’s Girls’ School, London, arguably the leading UK school for the last 20 years.

I have been now teaching for 33 years at university, college and secondary school levels. I began my secondary school teaching in 1989 when I took a post as a science teacher in Hamilton, Canada.  After a couple of years of teaching in Canada, I decided to travel to Europe by accepting a post at an international school in Munich, Germany. This marked the beginning of 24 years of international education and my involvement with the IB programme, teaching IB Physics, Mathematics and TOK for the past 24 years. I also had a fantastic opportunity of teaching physics and mathematics at Oxford and Cambridge Universities as well as MIT, and I have tried to continue conducting academic research in thermodynamics when time permits. I have been an IB inspector, examiner and workshop leader and I have written a Pre-IB Mathematics book. My passion of film, history and ….cats almost matches my love of physics and mathematics. I have two grown-up children living now in Toronto and Munich respectively.   This year marks ten years of my work at TBS and my return to Poland after almost 30 years of absence

My degree is from Leeds University where I studied English and French.  The course incorporated  studying at the University of Grenoble and the Free University in Amsterdam, giving me my first taste for living  overseas.  I began my teaching career over 12 years ago and have taught in both international and UK schools.  I taught in the Nord Anglia school in Bratislava for over four years and before arriving in Warsaw was teaching French in a Grammar school in the UK where I was also Head of Work Related Learning and Careers Education Information and Guidance. During my time in Warsaw I have been Deputy Subject Leader in English and Head of Year 7.

Having grown up in Manchester, I went to University in York where I graduated with a BA in Music with qualified teacher status in 2005.  I enjoyed my first 3 years of teaching in the UK before deciding to experience working in an international school. In 2008, I joined The British School of Washington and was appointed as Head of Primary in 2010.  I thoroughly enjoyed working in an international school with a diverse, enthusiastic community who were focussed on improving learning experiences for the children.

Originally from the North of Ireland, I have had the pleasure of spending many of my own childhood years abroad in an international setting and so when the opportunity to teach in Warsaw presented itself, I didn’t hesitate in accepting my first international teaching post.

I graduated from John Moore’s University, Liverpool in 2006 with a degree in Criminology and Sociology. Like many fresh graduates, the world was my oyster and as a twenty something I returned to Armagh and started to volunteer for NIACRO (an organisation designed to reduce crime) mentoring children in social care. This experience precipitated my desire to teach and so I applied to study a PGCE at London South Bank University.
