Our School Day

The school day is structured to encourage routine and familiarity, whilst having the breadth of experiences within it to develop the ‘whole’ child in all areas of life. Depending on your child’s age the structure of the day will be tailored to meet these needs more readily.

Through careful planning of concurrent timetables for the different Key Stages we are able to maximise the opportunities for our students to take advantage of our facilities. We do this by varying break times during the day in order to optimise access to dedicated learning spaces and play and relaxation areas. Additionally, timings between and within the two school sites are organised so that parents who have children of different ages are better able to plan the beginning and end of the school day comfortably.

In general the school day starts for all with student registration, during which important messages, instructions and notices might be given out. We believe in using every available minute we have with our students, therefore form tutors and class teachers may have prepared a quiz, thinking skills or problem-solving exercise, educational film clip or Global Classroom activity for this time. Formal lesson time then begins, with a busy day of learning and activities ahead for all.

Break times are for food and, of course, fun. However, they also provide opportunities, for students to participate in a number of activities, either a pre-arranged club, or perhaps to get some extra help from a teacher ...or possibly to help out with the charity bake sale? Or simply to relax and enjoy the company of friends. Whatever it is, students will find that opportunities to develop are not just confined to the classroom. Within the timetable itself we take great responsibility in ensuring that our students show respect for themselves, each other and their environment, and we carry this message beyond the classroom to any activity students choose to engage in at the school.

Our clubs and activities programme is delivered before, during and after school, and continues at the weekend, making the school a busy and active place to be.  Students can be found practising sports before school for local or international competitions, attending choir or orchestra at lunch time to prepare for a public concert or maybe developing their Arts and Crafts skills after school. We encourage ideas for activities from parents and students and, wherever possible, do our best to find enthusiastic volunteers to run lead a club.

Below you will find timings for the different school phases. This will give you some idea of the structure of the school day for the different Year Groups. We also have more detailed age-specific guides which will help to give you a more complete picture regarding the school day.
