High School: Canteen Update

I have tried every cuisine in the High School Canteen. This includes Western, Vegetarian, Asian, Noodles, Live Cooking and the Snack Shop. In my opinion, the food is very good. The way the Canteen calculates the price of each dish is fair as it is a buffet price, so you can get anything you want for just one price that the Canteen sets for each cuisine. For example, today I had Asian food and it cost me just 65 baht for Hainanese Chicken with rice, Chicken Curry in a small soup bowl and a fried egg.

Another Canteen Update, following last week’s meeting between Chef Walter and our Student Voice group.

On Monday last week, five representatives from the Student Voice met with the Head Chef of St Andrews, Chef Walter, to discuss the recent changes in the Canteen and possible future improvements.

The students told Chef Walter that they thought that both the quality and variety of food served in the Canteen has improved, and were happy to see both the change to paper straws and the recent arrival of pizzas.

Since last Monday’s discussion, there is now a greater range of snacks in the Snack Shops, including the return or pretzels and new chocolate brownies, with more changes coming soon, including breakfast before school and a Salad Bar.

I asked the members of the Student Journalism ECA what they think about the recent changes in the Canteen:

There have been a huge amount of positive changes in the High School Canteen over the last six weeks, and we are expecting even more soon. The Student Voice will continue to meet regularly with Chef Walter to observe progress and to continue to give feedback, with a plastic-free trial after half-term before their next meeting.
