This week Taiyo, Muskaan, Destiny and Paola talks about their CAS project and involvement in organising the Halloween Spooktacular at the beginning of November.

Last month, a group of Year 12 students planned the Halloween Festival called Spooktacular, in order to raise funds for this year’s “Service Week” and work for their CAS project. We would like to thank everyone who helped us with the festival from staff, students and the PTG.

A CAS project is a CAS experience students use their initiative to create and implement a plan in order to achieve their goal and convey their collaboration skills; for examples like raising a certain amount of money for a charity or raising awareness for the school community.

The Halloween Spooktacular was an incredible experience as we had to make sure that all the students were having fun and enjoying the event. We separated ourselves into two groups, people who organised and ran the haunted house and people who organised the food, drinks and decoration.

For the decorations, we started by deciding on what we wanted to do or buy, then we moved on to looking at what we could possibly do. Following that we made a list of the materials we would need to decorate the atrium and what we would need for the haunted house. We organised meetings after school to make the decorations. As time passed we noticed that we would not be able to make as many varieties of decorations as we hoped, however, we tried to make as many as possible and finished just in time. For the food, we looked at inspiration online, made a list and divided the tasks and made a shopping list. We bought all the ingredients the night before the event in order to serve the food fresh. We spent the evening making the food and brought them to school for a few hours before the party. We hope that everyone enjoyed.

A few weeks before the event we brainstormed and made a plan of the haunted house. We drew out a layout of the common room and came up with a story for the haunted house. We then went to Sampheng Market where we purchased all the props and materials that were needed, for example, battery operated candles, lights and scary decor. On Thursday after school, we stayed and covered all the lockers and windows to ensure a dark environment. On the day of the event, we started to decorate the haunted house, splitting ourselves up according to what needs to be done. The haunted house was a great success and we were very happy with all the reactions and compliments we were given. Overall, it was an amazing experience to work together and organise it as a team.
