Take a look at all the activities KS2 completed to end a super busy half term. We have a health and safety reminder for everyone! Plus, Loy Kratong is at the end of this month as well as the creative ‘My Country’ themed writing competition closing date looming! It’s not too late to get involved!
Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 all travelled back in time in the last week of term as they celebrated the end of their ancient civilisation topics with immersion days in which the children got to dress up as Egyptians, Romans and Aztecs respectively. The teachers had planned a range of fun activities for the children, which included some food-based activities to help bring the topic to life and celebrate the hard work that the children had put in. Its’ always lovely to see the children enjoying the experience in their costumes which highlight the hard work put in by mums and dads too.
Year 4 invited their parents in to celebrate all of the hard work they had put into their Egyptian topic. The parents were able to see the beautiful artwork, read stories and newspaper articles, play the magnetic games which the children designed and built and to see the projects that the children completed at home. There was a wonderful buzz in the Year 4 classrooms and up on the 7th floor as the children shared their work and discussed the processes that they went through with their parents. Well done Year 4!
On the Thursday of the last week of the first half term, Year 6 travelled across to the High School for the first time to take part in the Poetry Slam. In the lead up to the event, the children wrote their own poems on a huge range of subjects. They then had to learn and perform these, with the best in each class being put forward for the main event. This was a fantastic opportunity for the children to challenge themselves, performing in front of an audience of over 300 peers. The standard was really high from both the Y6 and the Y7 students and the judges had a tough job picking the winners. In Y6 the overall winner was Ma’u. Kiara was in 2nd place and Grace L. and Tapp Tapp came in 3rd.

During this time of heightened hygiene in school, it’s important to remind the children that they should not be sharing any snacks brought in from home. It’s also important to provide a healthy snack each day for the children who do not take school snack. Items such as grab bags of Lays crisps or tubes of Pringles are not the healthiest option and also encourage sharing among the children.
Please remember to send your child to school each day with two masks. One to wear and a spare to keep in their bag. We are having a big push again on wearing masks in the classrooms and as the children move around the campus. Along with this, we also remind the children about regular handwashing. In KS2, the children also need to complete a contact questionnaire each morning to help us track where everyone has been should a situation ever arise where we might need this information.
Please remember to carefully follow our Well Child Policy. This will help protect everyone in our community.
The traffic situation on Pridi 20 has greatly improved with the new restricted access through this gate. Thank you for your support to make this work.
To help with the congestion on the main car park after school, we ask that KS2 parents do not park there, but instead, use the alternative parking at Suk 71 or at Max Valu.
Please remember that parents with children in KS2 only (Y3, Y4, Y5 & Y6) should not be coming into the main car park in the morning. Drop off for children in these year groups is in front of the main car park.
Some of the students enrolled in the STARs Programme, enjoyed the first-ever holiday camp this half term.

Students enjoyed being with their peers over the break to engage in favourite activities such as cooking, sensory play and music.
In addition, students travelled on school buses to local venues such as Kidzoona, Bounce and Harborland to have some well deserved social and recreation time after working hard at school this half term.
It was a fantastic experience for all involved and a wonderfully inclusive community initiative for our STARS.
As always, we will be celebrating Loy Krathong in school with assemblies celebrating this Thai festival of giving thanks to the water goddess as we near the end of another (very) rainy season. On Friday 30th October, the children should come to school wearing traditional Thai costumes. For those new to the school or new to Thailand, here are some examples of what to wear.
If your child enjoys writing, they will LOVE this worldwide creative competition for KS2 children: My Country.
The competition has a theme: ‘My Country.’ It requires the children to write a piece about either the country they are from, their ideal country or their favourite country in the world. Besides providing a great opportunity to showcase your child's writing skills, there are some great prizes to be won. More details can be found on the website.
The piece of writing must be completed and sent from home; however, your child’s teacher would be more than happy to give some feedback before it is submitted.
The deadline for entering the story is Sunday 1st November 2020.
