It was great to see the students’ smiling faces, even behind their masks. Thank you for filling out the Health and Declaration Form! We are delighted to know that our community is safe and healthy. We have more exciting University updates with plenty of offers, acceptances and a special shout out.

It was great to see the students’ smiling faces, even behind their masks, as we welcomed them all back to the High School this morning.

After an extended Registration/Tutor period, during which Tutors welcomed the students back to school and reminded them of our physical distancing measures, students were straight into their lessons. I could see, as I walked around the school this morning, how happy they were to be back in classrooms with their classmates and their teachers, and by later in the morning it felt like we had all never been away.

Thank you very much to all of our parents for completing the updated Health & Travel Declaration Form so promptly, with every single St Andrews family completing this between Mr Paul’s email on Wednesday afternoon, after we had received official permission from the Ministry of Education to fully reopen our school for classroom teaching, and the beginning of the school day this morning. We have already followed up any reported issues, and are very pleased to know that our community is safe and healthy.

Universities Update

In this week’s University Update, we congratulate Jasleen, who has received an offer from the prestigious joint Doctor of Medicine Programme - a collaboration between Srinakharinwirot University, Thailand and the University of Nottingham in the UK. Students begin by studying for a Bachelor of Medical Science at the University of Nottingham and then return to Thailand to complete three years of clinical studies in the Thai Doctor of Medicine program, graduating with a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from Srinakharinwirot University.

Jasleen (on the right) will be the third member of her family to graduate from St Andrews and then study overseas, after Simran (Class of 2016) and their brother Jaswin (Class of 2018). After Graduation, Simran studied for a BA in Psychology at the University of British Columbia, Canada. She is now working in our Learning Support Department with our English++ students and, later this year, will begin studying for a Masters of Counselling at Monash University, Australia, where Jaswin is currently studying Information Technology and Business. You can read more about Simran’s journey from St Andrews to UBC, back to St Andrews and then to Monash here.

So far this year, our Year 13 students have received 94 offers and acceptances from 60 different universities in 9 different countries: Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Thailand, the UK and the US.

Calendar Update

The three weeks of Virtual School, the current physical distancing measures and rearranged Mock Exams for Year 11 and 13 students have had a significant impact on the Term 2 Calendar.

As I wrote last week, our physical distancing measures mean that, for the time being, there will be no Activities after school. We are currently reviewing this, following guidance from the Ministry of Education, and will update you as soon as possible, both about Activities and the planned fixtures/trips etc.

The Calendar excerpt below shows the revised dates for this term’s Exam/Grade Reports and Parent/Student/Teacher Meetings, as well as some of the confirmed events taking place in school between now and half-term.

Please note that next Friday - Friday 12th February - will be a normal school day, despite the recently announced Government holiday on this date.

Please remember that all the school's Google Calendars can be seen via Moodle: calendar.standrews.ac.th
