International Women’s Day - Choose to Challenge

A range of initiatives and events took place across the High School today to recognise International Women’s Day. This year’s global theme is Choose to Challenge; an opportunity to celebrate women’s achievements and increase visibility while calling out inequality.

During Registration students earned House Points by completing a special quiz created by Assya (Year 12).

In PE lessons, students were led through self-defence techniques by our STA Muay Thai experts Mr Leo and Ms Jade, both of whom have travelled the world extensively with the sport of Muay Thai.

During lunchtime it was Zumba time! Staff and students joined our special guest Zumba instructor to show off their moves or try a new activity as part of the celebrations.

And after school, girls were invited to join a special contact rugby session with our STA rugby coaches instead of their usual touch rugby training.

You can watch a video created by the students on our Youtube channel:

I would like to thank the team of students who have been working behind the scenes to make these initiatives possible, with a special Thank You to Assya (Year 12) for the time that she spent preparing the quiz.

The Arts Update: Working Title and Immunity are coming soon...

After last week’s fantastic Recital, with some amazing musical performances, and the excellent results of the Nord Anglia Virtual Young Musician Competition 2021 - see the Music section below for more details - we are now all looking forward to next week’s Working Title and the IB Visual Arts Exhibition: Immunity.

Tickets for Working Title are now on sale, for 200 baht, from the Accounts Window in the High School Office. Please book your tickets as a family group to allow for appropriate physical distancing. Ticket holders will also be some of the first to see the IB Visual Arts Exhibition.

Week Without 2021

Next week is also our annual Week Without, with students and teachers giving something up for the week, with all sponsorship money going to Baan Luk Rak Children’s Home in Khon Kaen.

These events, and a reminder of the dates of all this term’s Grade Reports and Parent/Student/Teacher Meetings are shown on the Calendar excerpt below.

Universities Update: O Canada
In last week’s Universities Update, I focused on the UK, and on 9 Year 13 students who had heard from all of the UK universities to which they applied, with the students having received offers from over 20 different UK universities between them.

As you can see from the infographic below, Year 13 students currently have offers and acceptances from universities in 10 different countries, with the second most popular country, after the UK, currently Canada, with 40 different offers to our Year 13 students so far.

Congratulations to Andi, David, Keefee, Michellie, Prisha and Theo on a fantastic set of offers, with these six students having so far received 27 offers from 10 different Canadian universities between them, for courses in Life Sciences, Literature, Biomedical Sciences, Sociology, Psychology and Political Science respectively. These offers include 14 offers from different courses at the University of Toronto - Canada’s highest rated university.

This week we also reached another exciting milestone, with the total scholarships offered to Year 13 students now topping 20 million baht.

As always, you can see more details about this year’s, and previous year’s, University Offers and Acceptances on our website.
