54 members from the Class of 2021 graduate at a series of seven special ceremonies. Let me introduce you to this year’s St Andrews Valedictorians! We also have a University Update! Graduation 2021

Congratulations to Nat (pictured above) and the 54 other members of the Class of 2021 who graduated from St Andrews at a series of seven physically, but not socially, distanced Graduation Ceremonies on Thursday last week.

We offered all of our Year 13 students a choice of two different Graduation formats and two different dates, with another day of Graduation Ceremonies taking place in two weeks’ time, with students graduating either in small groups, with two guests, or in larger groups of students.

Those Graduation Ceremonies with a larger group of students will include a speech, on behalf of the students in the Class of 2021, from one of our four Valedictorians.

Congratulations to Bjorn, David, Kazu and Niya on achieving these prestigious positions, as the Year 13 students with the highest Predicted Grades at the time of our Year 13 Farewell Assembly at the end of Term 2.

In Niya’s speech on Thursday, she reminded the graduating students that they are “creative and smart individuals who found their own way to present their best selves, whether it’s art, music, sports, languages, humanities, STEM or more, and celebrated both “the beauty of cultures from several nationalities and ethnicities in this class” and the students’ “commitment and perseverance throughout our time at the school”.

Niya ended by encouraging the graduating students to “learn lessons from their regrets, leave them behind, and keep moving forward to become the best version of yourself.”

Congratulations to all those students who graduated on Thursday. It was a lovely day of Graduation Ceremonies, and we are all looking forward to another, with speeches from Bjorn and David, in two weeks’ time.

Universities Update, and our new Internships Register

As well as their Graduation Ceremonies, Year 13 students have continued to receive offers and acceptances from universities around the world, with over 300 offers from 175 universities in 17 countries.

As always, you can see more details about this year’s, and previous year’s, University Offers and Acceptances on our website.

In the last newsletter of last term, I mentioned our new Internships Register. If you work in the medical field and would like to help the next generation of St Andrews Medicine students, or work in other areas where an internship would be a significant advantage in future university applications, for example, Economics and Engineering, and would be happy to offer internship positions to current Year 12 students during the summer holiday, please complete this Google Form.

Euclid Mathematics Contest

Congratulations also to Vigu, another of our graduating students, who achieved a Distinction in the recent Euclid Mathematics Contest organised by the University of Waterloo. This is an incredible achievement, with Vigu achieving an outstanding mark of 85% on the contest, in which the mean score was 56%..

STAr Jump for Klong Toey Update:

It has been a great first week for our STAr Jump for Klong Toey fundraising campaign, to try to help the children and families of Klong Toey, with the current total heading towards 400,000 baht, and it has been great to see the students filling up their Year Group Flipgrids with their videos - we will share some of the most imaginative ones soon.

If you are comfortable with the idea, we are also suggesting you post your own video on any social media networks you might be part of. Who knows - maybe someone else will be inspired to donate too!
