On Friday 28th April, there was a very well-attended and successful meeting at the High School for parents of our current Year 6 students. A wonderful group of current Year 7 students volunteered to show these parents around and explain more about their experiences with the High School curriculum and facilities during the past year. These insights will surely be appreciated by parents looking to prepare their children for Year 7 next academic year.
In fact, there have already been lots of events throughout this academic year to prepare our Year 6 students for their eventual move to High School. They started familiarising themselves with life at the High School campus in Term 1 through organised activities where they got to know their future teachers and experienced the great facilities and different curriculum areas they will study next year as Year 7 students.
On Monday 15th and Tuesday 16th May, Year 6 students will be attending another Transition Day opportunity at the High School. During the day, they will experience a variety of High School lessons, to prepare them for a more independent and specialised manner of learning in Year 7. They will take part in Technology, Maths, Humanities, and Dance or Drama lessons, as well as a session introducing them to the High School Wellbeing Programme. We understand that as well as feeling excited about all the wonderful opportunities at High School, they may also be feeling a little nervous. Students will take part in an orienteering activity, which will help them become more adept at finding their way around the High School campus. If you should have any questions or concerns about the transition to High School or life in Year 7, please do not hesitate to get in touch with our Heads of Year 7.
The following week, on Tuesday 23rd May, we will also be welcoming Year 5 students to the High School for an Activity Morning. We have planned a rotation of activities, including physical games and mental challenges, where students will work together in teams within their Houses in various locations around the school. We hope that this will be an exciting opportunity for Year 5 students to take part in some fun games, whilst also navigating their way around the High School campus for the first time.
All these great activities will build confidence in our Year 5 and 6 students so they can actually begin to feel excitement about all the fantastic opportunities awaiting them at our High School.
Thank you to the Heads of Year 7 Mr Paul and Miss Georgia who have worked closely with Mr Matt and the Year 6 team to assemble transition day activities throughout the year for Year 6. Thanks to all their hard work and organising, our Year 6 students can feel truly ready and more confident about the start of Year 7 in August.
Year 5 students stepped out of the classroom and into the kitchen for a special Thai cooking class hosted by the talented chefs from getfresh. Under the guidance of the getfresh chefs, they learned about kitchen safety, teamwork, and, most importantly, the steps involved in cooking traditional Thai food like Tom Gai Kai and Lod Chong. The interactive session gave students the chance to discover new skills and connect with Thai culture in a fun and meaningful way.
Nine Year 11 and 12 students from St Andrews recently embarked on a service trip to Buriram in northeast Thailand to visit the Mechai Pattana Bamboo School, which has a unique model of education that blends academics with sustainability practices, entrepreneurship, and community development. St Andrews students engaged in hands-on activities and cultural exchange with local student boarders to gain first-hand experience for unique initiatives such as the ‘Agriculture for the Blind’ programme.
Harry, Class of 2025, shares his experience on the International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (IBCP). He is a passionate and driven young learner with a keen interest in hospitality and the service industry. One of the standout features of Harry’s IBCP experience was the opportunity to gain work experience working in the office and the operations side of getfresh, a popular cafe franchise in Bangkok.
At St Andrews Bangkok, we believe that every student deserves to feel seen, valued, and included both inside and outside the classroom. That’s why we are incredibly proud to introduce the Friendship Benches project, an initiative designed to foster connection, kindness, and community spirit across the school.
