Discovery or Young Artist Programme

The programme is tailored to place students in appropriate level ensembles that will create challenging, meaningful experiences for all. There are two tracks of student engagement catered to the appropriate level of experience and interest of each student, Discovery and Young Artist.

Discovery Programme (ages 10-18)

Designed for those with wide ranging interests, students in the Discovery Programme will choose both a major and minor course of study from among the three disciplines – dance, drama and music. Students will spend roughly three quarters of their day in their major course of study, rotating into their minor discipline as a welcomed opportunity to vary their experience. This program is ideal for students with multiple interests (e.g. piano and dance, drama and voice, etc.) and admission is based on auditions to the major and in some cases, minor area of study. Young Artist Programme (ages 12-18)

Designed for the advanced performing artist who wants to focus deeply in their chosen discipline, either dance, drama, strings, voice, or piano. Students will participate in additional rehearsals for Young Artist ensembles, private one-to-one lessons, and will have increased performance opportunities. Ideal for students that have been studying their discipline for at least two years and are already performing at an advanced level. Admission to the Young Artist programme is subject to a selective audition process. Read more about Dance, Drama and Music.

Spirit of Collaboration Small photo
The Spirit of Collaboration

Regardless of the program and major you choose, every student enjoys unique opportunities to collaborate with peers and faculty across various performing arts disciplines. Each summer our faculty work to design enriching cross-discipline experiences that help students tap into their artistry.  Piano students have gained physical awareness and greater stage presence through workshops with drama faculty; dancers, pianists, and strings players gained a deeper understanding of the symbiotic relationship between movement and music through collaborative workshops; and singers studied diction and acting to enhance their performance skills in masterclasses with drama faculty. We are dedicated to crafting specialized sessions for students every summer that are unique to the expertise of our multi-faceted faculty.

Festival Choir image
Festival Choir

Festival choir, a centerpiece of Summer Performing Arts with Juilliard in Geneva, is a collaborative ensemble that brings together performers of all disciplines. Dancers, actors, singers, pianists, and strings players come together to create artistry and enrich community through choral performance.  Meeting daily, Festival Choir is comprised of both students and faculty under the direction of our Choir Director, Dr. Lynnel Jenkins.  The artistic and educational setting allows for everyone to engage in collaborative singing and to experience artistic excellence regardless of past singing experience.

Festival Choir explores varied works ranging from early music to master works to contemporary works, and includes repertoire that is both accompanied and unaccompanied.  The musical experiences through collaborative singing supports the performers overall artistic development and allows for greater artistic expression, among other skills, in their major.  In a culminating performance, Festival Choir presents a varied program of choral works for family, friends and staff with the support of a collaborative pianist and conductor, allowing the entire Summer Arts community to perform as one at the close of the program.

I really liked how I was able to learn new techniques, and be able to apply them to my work. I will never forget the advice I received from my teachers and friends here.
