Friends of Ukraine BBQ

Friends of Ukraine BBQ - Friends of Ukraine BBQ

With the start of school back in full swing, we invited our Friends of Ukraine to a welcome back BBQ on Saturday.

I was so impressed with our Year 12 & 13 student volunteers.  Not only did they help to set up the clothes and toy donations in our community garden, they also went shopping to get the food, with lots of fresh fruit and preparing a delicious healthy salad.  They even took over my cooking duties on the grill and would not let me near the BBQ!!

I would also like to thank the teachers who volunteered to help supervise the event.  Assisting the students with putting out tables chairs and the comical attempts at building the pagoda without instructions, we could not hold these meetings without our wonderful students and teachers giving up their time and all will tell you the feel good factor you get from helping others.

Over 90 people attended the BBQ and it was lovely to see our friends, some who have been coming for 18 months now and also some new faces.  Although tinged with sadness that they cannot return to their homes due to the ongoing war, everyone enjoyed themselves and had a lovely time catching up after the holidays.

We will be beginning a new course of English lessons, both beginner and intermediate with 21 currently signed up to start this Saturday and with the student leadership team we will start to plan future events for this term.

Kind Regards and Best Wishes,
