Parentalk program a popular success

Beginning Friday 27 April, running for five consecutive weeks, Northbridge school counsellors Ms Alison and Mr Dave held a popular parenting course for parents whose children attend the school.

Parentalk

Being a parent is one of life’s greatest joys, but it is also one of its biggest challenges. There’s hardly a mum or dad on the face of the earth who, at times, is not overawed by the task of parenting. That’s why Parentalk was created.

Parentalk consisted of two courses running side by side: Parenting in the Primary Years (led by Ms Alison) and Parenting in the Teenage Years (Mr Dave).

It gave parents time to talk about the day-to-day challenges they face, as well as sharing the things that are going well. It looked at valuable principles that can be applied on a day-to-day basis with children and teenagers.

The course held at Northbridge was highly successful and everyone benefited; whether it was hearing things for the first time or timely reminders. The discussions were thoughtprovoking and the resources used were insightful and helpful.

There was plenty of laughter and an occasional tear as we shared the highs and lows of parenting together. We were reminded that "We can not be perfect parents but we can all be great parents!".

The course will be running again in September 2018 when we aim to run it over the weekend in order to support those working during the day and then again in the next semester.

Please do keep a look out and get ready to sign up!
