Nord Anglia Education schools celebrate exceptional academic results in A-levels, IGCSE, French Baccalaureate and more

Nord Anglia Education (NAE) today announced exceptional academic results for the 2018/19 school year, with students achieving well above global averages across the group’s curricula in A-levels, IGCSE, the French Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement.

As part of a global family of schools, NAE students excel. NAE’s educational approach enables every student to reach high levels of academic, personal and social success. Its schools offer rigorous and compelling curricula which are respected by the world's top universities, and encourage critical thinking, teamwork and leadership.

IGCSE

This year marks a record-breaking year for NAE with the IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education), with 50.1 per cent of grades being at the equivalent of A*/A (grades 7-9 in the new GCSE framework). This is especially impressive in comparison to the 20.6 per cent of students across the UK achieving the same results.

Andy Puttock, Group Head of Education, said: “One aspect that is truly inspiring about our IGCSE results is the consistent high quality when taking into consideration NAE’s rapidly growing number of schools. We remain committed to every student achieving beyond what they thought possible and are always ambitious for every child. We believe they can do this thanks to our transformational approach to teaching and learning.”

The top position belongs to the British International School of Kuala Lumpur, with an astounding 74.6 per cent of grades at A*/A. The British International School, Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam closely followed with 73 per cent achieving the same high level, followed by 70.4 per cent at Nord Anglia International School Shanghai, Pudong and then 66 per cent at Nord Anglia International School Dubai.

A-levels

NAE’s A-level results were equally as impressive for the 2018/2019 academic year, with 39 per cent of grades at A*/A. This result is well above the global average of 25.2 per cent. Similarly, 63.8 per cent of grades were A*/B for the year, also well above the global average of 51.1 per cent. This year’s A-level results represent one of the group’s strongest performances in its history.

Advanced Placement

Strong performance also continued for Advanced Placement (AP) scores in the NAE schools that offer the test. These scores, which run on a 5-point scale, determine whether our students are qualified to receive college credit. As one particularly impressive result, 72 per cent of students at Country Day School in Costa Rica enjoyed achieved scores of 4 or 5.

French Baccalaureate

This year’s results for the French Baccalaureate diploma were also laudable, with a 100 per cent pass rate for the second year running from all three NAE schools offering this qualification. These three schools are Collège Alpin Beau Soleil, Collège Champittet, Pully and Collège du Léman, whose scores represent the school’s best ever, with 32 per cent of students receiving “mentions très bien” for their diploma.

Andrew Fitzmaurice, Chief Executive Officer of Nord Anglia Education, said: “These outstanding results demonstrate NAE’s commitment to providing transformational learning opportunities for every child. Our students achieve more than ever thought possible. At NAE we aim to help students reach their full potential and equip them with the skills and mind-set to thrive in a changing world. Congratulations are due not only to our students, but also to our dedicated, world-leading teaching staff who have helped contribute to these tremendous results.”

Students across NAE’s family of schools are celebrating after receiving their long-awaited results, which has created an amazing atmosphere across our schools as we celebrate their successes. These new results follow the announcement in July on the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, in which NAE students achieved an average diploma score 10 per cent higher than the global average. NAE students had an average IB diploma score of 33 points out of 45, surpassing the 2018 global average of 30.
