We are a family of 4: we have 2 boys, Cas in Year 6 and Morris in Year 4. We moved to Abu Dhabi from Spain in the summer of 2019, and the children joined BIS Abu Dhabi that same school year, in August 2019.

My husband and I left our jobs in the Netherlands behind, to go on a world trip to South America, Asia and Alaska in 2009. This triggered our taste for adventure, so when we were offered the opportunity to move to Qatar towards the end of that year, we did not hesitate.

Both our boys were born in Doha and after some busy years of work and having children, we moved to Spain for a sabbatical in 2014. We loved the nature, climate, people and culture so much, that we spent the next 5 years there, setting up a company in property promotion. Longing to go back to life in the city and have new career opportunities, we were thrilled being able to move to Abu Dhabi in 2019, where my husband took up the position of Director Oil & Gas at his former Engineering company.

I work at BIS Abu Dhabi as the Events and Marketing Coordinator and it’s great to be part of the BIS community both as a parent as well as a staff member.

The UAE and BIS Abu Dhabi have offered a fantastic home to us in the past 2.5 years. Home for us is where we live together as a family. We do not care a lot about personal belongings, we moved here only with our suitcases 😉.

Due to the pandemic, it has taken us a bit longer to get to know Abu Dhabi and the UAE inside and out, so when we get the chance, we like to discover new places. We love camping and we love the mountains, so we hope to go to go up North or East in the next break.

Now that we are online, I would advise new families joining BIS Abu Dhabi to connect with other parents through the Parent Class Whatsapp groups. Your children’s teacher can connect you with the class representative who can add you to the group. Parents are always happy to help and get to know new families! Also, we have recently introduced the BISAD Network, parents can sign up using the following link https://bisadnetwork.com/ and find and directly reach out to other parents with similar interests, industries, and backgrounds or join one of our upcoming events posted on there.
