Tell us about yourself and how long you have been at BIS Abu Dhabi?
My name is Kelly Walker and I’ve been working at BIS Abu Dhabi for nearly 3 years now. I moved to Abu Dhabi 4 years ago with my husband, two daughters Esme and Tilly. My daughter Esme has been at school since Year 1, and Tilly started in Nursery. Tilly loved the school before she even started, she would always have her morning catch up with Mr. Wolfe on the Primary gate! The girls have both absolutely loved studying here and looking forward to going into Year 5 and Year 2 next year.

Where is “home” for you?
We are from Oxfordshire, a little town just on the edge of the beautiful Cotswold’s in the UK. Living in Abu Dhabi is the complete opposite from the rolling hills and quaint Cotswold villages that we are used to, but we love to stroll along the beautiful beaches here, and the hustle and bustle of city life on our doorstep. I’ve grown up in a military family, so I’m used to traveling and making new friends wherever we find ourselves. We moved to the Middle East for my husband’s work.

What do you like to do in Abu Dhabi?
Having the ocean just a few steps away has ignited my love for exploring beneath the wave’s scuba diving. Whilst living in Abu Dhabi I’m looking forward to seeing what marine life I can find in the nearby areas like Musandam in Oman. Our plan is to travel East as much as we can as we are in the perfect place here to hop to the destinations that feel so far from the UK.

What is your favourite thing about being a part of the BIS Abu Dhabi community?
As a family we love the community feel that the school has given us. Everyone looks out for each other, someone is always on hand for advice, to tell you the best places to visit and where to buy those items you miss from home! My daughters not only learn academically at school, but also have great fun with all the extracurricular activities that are provided. It’s clear to see the enthusiasm and passion that the teachers put into school life. My advice to any new families out there is to join the various Abu Dhabi Facebook groups, they are a great source of information.
