The British International School Abu Dhabi, part of the Nord Anglia Education family, is proud to announce that three students have been selected to attend this year’s 2025 Nord Anglia Student Summit in Houston, Texas, a transformative leadership event focused on global citizenship, sustainability, and student-led innovation.
Through Nord Anglia Education’s collaboration with UNICEF, this annual summit brings together over 160 students from 54 Nord Anglia schools worldwide, offering a unique opportunity for young leaders in Years 10 - 12 to collaborate on real-world challenges aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Hosted once again by The Village School and the British International School of Houston, the event runs from 21 to 28 June and is themed around LEADERSHIP.
A Global Platform for Student Voice and Impact
At the Summit, students will:
“We’re excited to host 160+ student leaders from around the world in Houston this year,” Dr Leslie Williams, Group Head of Social Impact and EDIB at Nord Anglia, said. “I’m looking forward to seeing how they’ll develop their leadership and youth advocacy skills in order to create a lasting impact on their local communities based on the SDGs and Child Rights.”
Principal of BIS Abu Dhabi, Alan Cocker, said: “We are incredibly proud of Zahra (Year 10), Diyaar (Year 10), and Meriam (Year 12) who have been selected to represent BIS Abu Dhabi at this year’s Nord Anglia Education Student Summit in Houston. Their selection is a testament to the passion and purpose they’ve shown throughout the year in engaging with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
From exploring sustainability and consumerism during Earth Day to examining water conservation in the UAE in Social Studies, our students have demonstrated a deep commitment to global citizenship. This summit offers a powerful platform for them to share their ideas and continue their journey as changemakers in our school and beyond.”
The NAE Student Summit is not the only way BIS Abu Dhabi students engage with the SDGs and social impact efforts. We are currently working towards the Bronze Social Impact Distinction, which recognises how schools embed children’s rights and the UN Sustainable Development Goals into their culture and curriculum. We also hope to apply for a Social Impact Grant in Term 1 next year, which would support our students in expanding their community-based initiatives aligned with the goals.
