From 17th to 25th September, students from Year 10 to 13 set off on an unforgettable Spanish Trip to Cuenca! Mykalia, from 11C, has shared with us an exciting overview of their trip, highlighting all the incredible experiences they had.
“The most memorable week of my life was the thrilling trip I took to Spain. Spain is such a beautiful country, every corner held the promise of an unforgettable experience.
When my friends and I arrived in Cuenca, I was completely mesmerised by the beauty of the streets. Our teachers provided us with a schedule explaining what we would be doing each day, for the entire week. We were paired up to live with a Spanish family, who were polite and welcoming when we arrived. Every morning at around half past nine, we would either walk or be driven to a language school where the teacher would explain what we would be doing that day.
Every day after lunch, we would return home to eat with our families and then enjoy the rest of our free time before returning to the language school. This is the time where some of the locals would have their “siesta” (nap) or just resting at home, which usually lasts for about 3 hours.
Every day, we took part in a range of entertaining activities, such as exploring the city, speaking with the locals in a market (also known as “mercadillo”), and visiting an abstract art museum. The canoeing and cooking workshop were my personal favorites. Canoeing along the tranquil waters of the river was a soothing and relaxing experience. I wish I could relive that exact moment again. Additionally, in the cooking workshop, we were given the opportunity to learn the recipe of “tortilla de patata”, which is a traditional dish that tasted absolutely delicious!
This trip was an opportunity to not only learn Spanish, but also learn about the Spanish culture and the way they live.”
We’re thrilled to announce that Nord Anglia Education is continuing its partnership with UNICEF for another three years! Since 2017, this unique collaboration has provided incredible opportunities for our students to engage in meaningful social impact initiatives that raise awareness of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), helping foster empathy, social advocacy, and global citizenship in all our classrooms.
Turkan, Tia, and Renad – our student Social Impact team – returned from Houston in June. The final part of their Houston experience was to provide feedback to the school’s senior leaders about what they had learnt during the UNICEF training and to propose their ideas for change.
