Manarat Al Saadiyat Art Adventure Visual Arts Trip to Abu Dhabi Art Fair 2023
We are excited to share the experiences of our Year 10 Visual Arts students who recently embarked on an inspiring journey to the 2023 Abu Dhabi Art Fair at the prestigious Manarat Al Saadiyat Art Gallery. The trip was a fascinating exploration of creativity and expression, offering our Fine Art and Photography students an important and informative opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of contemporary art.

At the heart of the visit were stands exhibiting a diverse array of artwork from exceptional artists from around the world. Our students had the privilege of a guided private tour where the concepts and intentions of several artists were explored in more depth, enabling students to witness firsthand the motivations and craftsmanship of these creators, and to gain more insight into the varied and thought-provoking perspectives that the Visual Arts can offer. Whilst touring the exhibition, students got to see the work of Qader Al Rais, one of the most celebrated and world-renowned Emirati artists and even got to meet and have their photograph taken with his son, Musab Alrais who was also exhibiting his exceptional work at the Fair.

One of the highlights of the trip was a practical art workshop inspired by the innovative work of Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim. His captivating 'Elevation' installation at the Art Fair and its focus on ‘playfulness, contemplation, and renewed connections to the world around us’, was used as a starting point. During the workshop, students experimented with colour, patterns, and shapes inspired by Ibrahim's masterpieces. The result? Each student crafted their very own take-away Tote Bag, a tangible expression of their creative journey and a meaningful memento from this enriching experience.

In addition to the visual delights at Manarat Al Saadiyat, our students also had the privilege of attending the Berklee Abu Dhabi. Here, they were treated to an extraordinary installation by the world-renowned choreographer William Forsythe. The installation, a mesmerising blend of movement and artistry called ‘Nowhere and Everywhere at the Same Time, captivated our students' senses when they actively engaged in an interactive and immersive movement-based activity, adding a dynamic and participatory dimension to their artistic exploration.

The Year 10 Visual Arts Trip to the Abu Dhabi Art Fair at Manarat Al Saadiyat was undeniably a culturally enriching experience. Our students returned with not only newfound practical skills (and a personalised Tote Bag!), but also a broader perspective on the power of art to inspire, connect, and transform lives. We are immensely proud of their enthusiasm, creativity, and the positive energy they brought back to our school community as a result of our cultural visit and look forward to seeing how what they have seen inspires their future art making practice.

“It was great, honestly, I was very inspired. To be seeing such original artworks made me want to create my own pieces. I found the art very beautiful and meaningful and to be experiencing this with fellow art students and doing the workshop was a great opportunity."

-Türkan (Y10)

"The trip was great! There was a variety of different artworks from artists around the world and it was really inspiring. I will definitely use what I saw to help me develop ideas for my future artworks. Overall, the trip was really enjoyable and fun."
