BIS Abu Dhabi Graduate Interview

BIS Abu Dhabi Graduate, Pranav

Meet Pranav, Class of 2026 IB Diploma Programme Graduate

Pranav joined The British International School Abu Dhabi in 2024 as a Year 12 student. This year, he achieved an outstanding 43 points in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, a result that reflects his hard work and dedication.

"I was beyond ecstatic," he said. "I chose the IB Diploma Programme because it prioritises independent research through the Internal Assessments and the Extended Essay. I've always seen myself pursuing research in the future, so it felt like the perfect fit."

Throughout the programme, Pranav approached every research project as an opportunity to challenge himself.

"I treated every IA and my Extended Essay as a chance to prove to myself that I was capable of pursuing a research-focused career. I'm incredibly happy that all the effort I put into my work is reflected in my results."

Pranav has accepted an offer to study a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Ecology and Conservation Biology, at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia.

"I chose UQ because it's one of the best places to study ecology and environmental science," he explained. "Queensland's incredible biodiversity and the university's reputation as a leading research institution made it my first choice."

His passion for biology began in childhood, inspired by programmes such as Wild Kratts and Dinosaur Train. During the IB Diploma Programme, he further explored this interest through scientific research, including projects focused on the UAE's mangrove ecosystems.

Beyond the classroom, Pranav was actively involved in the BISAD Medical Society, the Sustainability and Leadership CCA, and the Current Affairs CCA, giving him opportunities to develop his leadership skills while exploring his interests.

Pranav believes the breadth of the IB Diploma Programme helped strengthen his university applications.

"IB requires you to be a jack of all trades," he said. "Studying subjects across different disciplines gave me a broad educational background, while my Extended Essay and CAS experiences helped strengthen my applications."

Reflecting on his time at BIS Abu Dhabi, Pranav said his favourite memories were the simple moments spent playing board and card games with classmates during breaks and at the end of term.

"I'm going to miss the school community and all the friends I've made at BIS Abu Dhabi. I've always felt welcomed and supported here."

He is also deeply grateful to his teachers.

"I owe my success to my teachers. They have been supportive every step of the way, encouraging my ambitions, nurturing my curiosity, and always being there with advice whenever I needed it."

Looking ahead, Pranav hopes to build a career in academia, contributing to research and education within the environmental and biological sciences.

Congratulations, Pranav. We are incredibly proud of your achievements and wish you every success at university as you pursue your dream of becoming a biologist.
