BIS Abu Dhabi Graduate Interview

Meet Sergei, Class of 2026 IB Diploma Programme Graduate
Sergei joined The British International School Abu Dhabi in August 2024. This year, Sergei achieved an impressive 42 points in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, recognising the dedication and resilience he brought to his studies.
"I was incredibly happy to learn that two years of hard work had truly paid off and that all my efforts had been worth it."
Sergei will continue his studies at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) in Germany, where he will pursue a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering.
"I chose this university because of its outstanding academic reputation and because Bavaria is home to many leading technology and engineering companies," he said.
Inspired by a lifelong fascination with aviation and a passion for mathematics and physics, Sergei believes Aerospace Engineering is the perfect combination of his interests.
"It may sound like a standard cliché answer, but I have always been fascinated by the sky and aviation. Later, when I discovered my passion for mathematics and physics at school, choosing a career that combined those interests with my childhood dream felt like a natural decision."
Reflecting on his time at BIS Abu Dhabi, Sergei believes the IB Diploma Programme prepared him well for university.
"I think the IB Programme helped me the most by developing my self-discipline and time-management skills. Learning how to organise one's own work is an essential skill at university."
Outside the classroom, Sergei was a member of the school's BSME championship volleyball team, participated in the F1 in Schools competition, and was also a member of the swimming club.
One of his favourite memories was competing alongside his volleyball teammates.
"I think the memory that will stay with me the longest is preparing for the volleyball tournament together with my teammates, especially the excitement of playing in the final match."
When asked what he will miss most about BIS Abu Dhabi, Sergei reflected on the school's welcoming and diverse community.
"This school created an environment where students from very different cultural backgrounds were able to work together and support one another. I believe that sense of community is something truly essential and is definitely something I will miss."
Looking ahead, Sergei hopes to build a career in the aerospace industry, with the ambition of working for one of the world's leading aerospace companies.
Congratulations, Sergei, on your exceptional IB Diploma results. We are proud to celebrate your achievements and wish you every success as you take the next step towards an exciting future in aerospace engineering.
