Mr Maris sprinting to the finals at the USA Masters Indoors Track and Field Championships!
Mr David Maris, PE Educator at BIS Houston, will be competing in the 60-metres sprint event at the USA Masters Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend. He will be alongside entrants from across the US, including: 6 Olympians, 114 returning champions, 40 international athletes, and 43 American and World Indoor Record Holders at the Championships in Chicago.
This is a life-long ambition for our teacher, who has been afforded the opportunity to train alongside gold medal legends such as Greg Rutherford, Richard Kilty and Linford Christie in the past. Mr Maris has been working hard in his practice sessions before school to ensure he is race ready and run as close to the times he was running in his twenties as possible. With a huge amount of resilience, Maris has worked hard on his speed and mechanics, whilst doing his best to ensure he recovers and remains as healthy and injury free as possible. The 60m sprint is incredibly short and there is little margin for error, so any mistake is costly, and a thorough preparation is therefore essential! He is delighted to be taking part in a national event, and our Bulldog community can’t wait to cheer him on all the way the finish line.
Update: Congratulations to Mr Maris sprinting to the finish line taking 11th place - super impressive!
