NURSERY
There is no dress code in Nursery however, parents may be asked to provide waterproofs (jacket and trousers) and wellington boots for outdoor activities.
RECEPTION – YEAR 6
All school uniform items (except trousers and shorts) should have the official Nord Anglia Education (NAE) logo.
Daywear
- Navy blue tailored trousers (no leggings, jeans or combat-style trousers) or navy blue school skirt
- Or navy school pinafore
- Pale blue short or long-sleeved school polo shirt
- School navy blue jumper
- Or school navy blue cardigan
- Or school navy blue V-neck vest
- Plain socks (white or navy blue) or plain tights (navy blue) (no patterned tights)
- Plain leather type black shoes or sandals
- Optional playtime/outdoor shoes – trainers (black or white)

- Navy blue and white flowered dress

Footwear
Every child needs at least one smart pair of black shoes or sandals, which will be worn in the school building (indoor shoes). These will be the shoes that children will be asked to wear if they are representing the school outside of the school building. The outdoor/playtime shoes can be another pair of black shoes or trainers (black or white, no bright coloured shoes or laces please). In the winter months some plain boots are allowed for outside with the smart black shoes / sandals being worn inside.
SECONDARY YEARS 7 - 11
All students at the British International School Bratislava must wear the school uniform. As a student at BISB, you are an ambassador for our school, and your dress and behaviour convey an impression to the public of our school. Teachers are required to enforce the dress code at all times and to encourage students to take pride in their appearance. School uniform must be worn correctly at all times on buses, in school and when on a school trip (unless special permission has been given). All uniform pieces should be clearly labelled with your name on it.
Uniform list
- BISB navy blue cardigan, jumper or V-neck vest (All have the pale blue trim at the collar and school logo).
- BISB pale blue short or long-sleeved collared shirt.
- BISB Ramsey Blue tartan skirt or BISB tailored trousers (no leggings) or shorts
- Plain white, black or navy-blue ankle-length socks or plain navy-blue or black tights.
- Plain black full closed shoe – no boots or sandals. Trainers can only be worn if they are entirely black, including laces, soles and logos.
Footwear
If students choose to arrive at school in outdoor shoes, then they need to ensure that they have the appropriate plain black indoor shoes that meet the uniform requirements.
Students may choose to go outside at break or lunch time in their outdoor shoes, but they are expected to change their footwear before returning to lessons.
Hair, make-up and accessories
- Students can wear a watch, a simple, conservative necklace or a simple, conservative bracelet. Rings cannot be worn. All jewellery must be removed for PE.
- Students can wear discreet make-up, including nail varnish, but both need to be conservative in colour and style.
- Hairstyles must be conservative. Hair can be dyed as long as it is natural colour (brown, black, blonde or auburn).
- Students can wear stud earrings in their ears. Hoops or hanging earrings are not allowed.
- Nose piercings and ear-cartilage piercings are allowed as long as the studs are discreet.
- Eyebrow, lip and cheek piercings are not allowed.
- Visible tattoos are not allowed on any part of the body.
Physical Education
- Lightweight indoor trainers or gym shoes with non-marking soles.
- Short sleeved T-shirt with BISB logo in their House colour.
- Plain navy sports shorts / blue tracksuit trouser.
- Blue hooded sweatshirt with school badge.
- In winter, additional layers are advised.
- A cap can be worn outside during the summer.
IB DRESS CODE – YEARS 12 AND 13
IB students are the role models of the school, and as such are expected to dress in a smart and respectable manner at all times. This means that they must dress in a professional attire, which is defined as follows:
Clothing
- Students must wear smart business-style collared shirt, blouse or top in a conservative colour. Polo shirts are not allowed.
- Tailored trousers or shorts can be worn, or a knee-length dress or skirt. Shorts, dresses and skirts cannot be more than 5cm above the knee.
- Blazers and ties are optional.
- No denim or denim-look material, in any colour.
- No leather or leather-look clothing.
- No ripped clothing.
- No leggings.
- No sports clothes or hoodies.
Footwear

- Trainers can only be worn if they are entirely black, including laces, soles and logos.
- No flip-flops, Converse or Ugg boots are allowed.

- Visible tattoos are not allowed on any part of the body.
For further clarification, please see the additional guidance overleaf. Any student who does not follow the school dress code will lose the privilege of wearing their own clothes, and will be required to wear school uniform, for a period defined by the IB coordinator. Suitable uniform items will be provided.
There is a designated teacher who will have the final say on whether an item of clothing is acceptable or not to wear for school.
