Year 5 British International School of Washington students recently enjoyed a truly enriching educational visit to the Embassy of Azerbaijan, offering them a deeper understanding of the country’s rich history and vibrant cultural traditions. The group was warmly welcomed by the Ambassador, who hosted an engaging and informative presentation that brought Azerbaijan to life for our young learners.

During the visit, students explored various aspects of Azerbaijani culture, including traditional food, music, dance, sports, and national customs. One of the highlights was learning about Azerbaijan’s world‑famous carpets. Students were fascinated by the intricate designs and the centuries‑old craftsmanship involved in their creation. Many reflected on the patience, skill, and collaboration required, recognizing how each carpet represents the work of many hands and carries deep cultural meaning.

The experience concluded with the students sampling traditional treats and receiving thoughtful gifts, adding a special and memorable touch to the visit. This hands‑on cultural immersion not only enhanced classroom learning but also encouraged global awareness and curiosity, key values we strive to foster at BISW.
