JOINing our family
We can’t wait to welcome you to The British School of Nanjing.

A warm welcome

We’re delighted you’re thinking about The British School of Nanjing (BSN) for your child’s education. We promise to nurture their passions, talents and ambitions, and ensure your child achieves outstanding academic results. This will take them to the world’s best universities and prepare them for future success – whatever their dreams and aspirations.

At BSN, we offer places all year round to children aged 2-18. After making an initial enquiry, you’ll either visit us in person or take a virtual discovery tour. You’ll then fill in an online application form. The final step is to invite your child to an assessment.

Every family’s application process is different, so we’d encourage you to get in touch with our admissions team to find out how it’ll work for you. They can answer any questions about entry requirements and talk you through each stage.

You’re almost there! Once you’ve completed the first four steps – and if our vibrant school community is right for you – we’ll offer your child a place.
Starting school
Once their place is confirmed, we’ll make sure your child gets a warm welcome. We’ll send you information before they start and invite you to a family induction day. • How do I apply?

After filling in the enquiry form and joining us for a tour, you’ll need to complete our online application form. You’ll also need to send us:

A copy of your child’s most recent school report.

    Medical and passport information.

A reference from your child’s current school.

Once we’ve received your documents, we’ll invite your child to do a short assessment.

You can find out more about the application process, and book a tour, by getting in touch with our friendly admissions team.

  • How long does the admissions process take?
It depends – each child’s application process is unique. But we’ll let you know as soon as we receive your application form. And we’ll get back to you to confirm your child’s place within 48 hours.
  • How does the process differ if my company is paying the fees?
If your company is paying your child’s fees, our admissions and finance teams are happy to deal with them directly. Please let us know as early as possible in the application process.
  • What is your withdrawal policy?
You’ll need to give two months' notice in writing before your child’s last day of school. If you write to us during a public holiday, the notice of withdrawal will be accepted from the first day back after the break.
  • English is not our family's first language. Can you support my child?
Our expert English as an Additional Language (EAL) team supports students in Years 1-9, although help is available to some older children. We’ll assess your child’s English proficiency during the application process and set up a personalised programme that will get them up to speed. Our EAL students make outstanding progress; they’re typically proficient English speakers within two years.
