We’re proud to be accredited by and hold membership of several globally respected organisations.
What it takes to earn world class accreditation
At The British School of Tashkent, our accreditations are not simply badges of honour. They represent months of preparation, deep reflection, and rigorous external scrutiny. Each one demonstrates our commitment to excellence in every aspect of school life.
Below is a closer look at what each organisation requires and why these achievements truly set BST apart.

COBIS (Council of British International Schools)
The Council of British International Schools sets some of the most demanding standards for British schools around the world. Achieving COBIS accreditation involves a comprehensive compliance inspection that reviews every layer of school practice.
A COBIS-compliant school must demonstrate:
- Exceptional safeguarding including robust child protection policies, staff training, secure recruitment practices and a school-wide safeguarding culture.
- High quality teaching and learning verified through lesson observations, student progress data, curriculum planning and teacher development systems.
- Strong leadership and governance with strategic planning, professional accountability and transparent decision making.
- Outstanding student welfare including mental health support, inclusion provision, equality of access and systems that ensure every child feels safe and valued.
- Fully compliant operations covering health and safety, staff employment practices, finance management and data protection.
Schools are required to provide extensive documentation, undergo interviews with inspectors, and demonstrate evidence of continuous improvement. Very few schools achieve COBIS status on their first attempt, which makes BST’s accreditation particularly meaningful.
BSO (British Schools Overseas)
British Schools Overseas accreditation is the closest international equivalent to an Ofsted-style inspection. Awarded by organisations approved by the UK Department for Education, it confirms that a school outside the UK meets the same standards as high performing independent schools in England.
A BSO inspection evaluates:
- The quality of the curriculum ensuring it aligns with the English National Curriculum and prepares students for internationally recognised qualifications.
- Teaching quality and student achievement through lesson observations, work scrutiny, assessment analysis and progress tracking.
- Behaviour and attitudes to learning ensuring students are respectful, engaged and motivated.
- Leadership and management effectiveness including governance, strategic vision and the school’s capacity to improve.
- Boarding and welfare standards if applicable.
- Safety, security and student protection based on strict UK safeguarding expectations.
Inspectors spend several days on campus conducting deep reviews of lessons, interviewing staff and students, analysing documentation and evaluating school operations. Achieving BSO status demonstrates that BST consistently delivers a British education of the highest international standard.

AoBSO (The Association of British Schools Overseas)
The Association of British Schools Overseas is a professional body that represents and supports schools that have already achieved BSO accreditation. Membership is not automatically granted and requires schools to uphold ongoing standards of excellence.
To be accepted into AoBSO, a school must:
- Hold a current BSO accreditation and demonstrate full compliance with its standards.
- Commit to continuous inspection cycles and transparent sharing of progress and improvement plans.
- Ensure all staff maintain professional learning and safeguarding training.
- Demonstrate strong governance, ethical leadership and responsible operational management.
- Contribute to a global community of excellence through collaboration, best practice sharing and cross-school initiatives.
Membership reflects a school’s dedication to high performance, accountability and ongoing development. AoBSO schools represent the top tier of British education overseas, and joining this group signals that BST is committed to maintaining quality year after year.

FOBISIA (The Federation of British International Schools in Asia)
The Federation of British International Schools in Asia focuses on collaboration, student opportunity and professional learning. But membership is not automatic. Schools must meet a range of quality benchmarks before joining.
To become a FOBISIA member school, a school must:
- Deliver a high-quality British style curriculum with strong academic outcomes and a robust learning culture.
- Demonstrate excellent safeguarding and child protection systems.
- Provide evidence of strong leadership and governance that aligns with British international school expectations.
- Offer wide ranging opportunities in sport, the arts and co-curricular activities.
- Commit to ongoing professional development through recognised training pathways.
Once accepted, schools must maintain these standards, engage actively in FOBISIA events and submit to periodic reviews. Membership gives students unparalleled opportunities to compete, collaborate and connect with peers across Asia.
