School Value: Caring

After a short school week last week, the children have shown that they are more than capable of sharing and caring once again with their friends. It has been lovely to watch the children greeting old friends and welcoming new friends. This focus on kindness has been an excellent introduction to our TET charity Shoe Box project which the EYs children will be learning about this week.

Global Citizens: Celebrations Around the World
Over the term, Year 1 will explore celebrations from countries around the world and take part in many activities from the culture. On Friday, the children took part in their entry point and had a fantastic time exploring Scottish traditions. The children made kilts, did some ceilidh dancing, a scavenger hunt and even tried some Scottish Shortbread.

The Science of Chocolate
For the Year 3 entry point, Year 3 immersed themselves in a range of chocolate related activities.

They used out golden tickets to enter Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory. They were scientists: They tested chocolate and decided whether it was milk, white or dark chocolate. They were researchers: using a range of books and resources to see what they could learn and they were designers using creativity to design a chocolate Factory. They had lots of fun learning about chocolate!

School Value: Enquiry

For the Entry Point to IPC Unit Land, Sea and Sky, Year 4 went to the Koi Fishpond in Royal City. They found out how the fish adapted to life underwater. They also labeled parts of a fish. Have a look at the fun they had!

During their IPC Entry Point, the Y5 students made and decorated their own Trojan horse models, helping bring the Greek myths they’ll be studying to life. They’ve been creating their own mythical heroes, and will be writing poems in literacy and studying ancient cultures like the Romans and Greeks in IPC. They’ll be asking – were they really Great, Bold and Brave?

School Value: Reflection

During their IPC Entry Point, the Y6 students produced some incredible artwork. The students created ‘breakthrough’ art to represent a time in the present, being broken through by a time from the past. This could reflect something positive like advances in technology, or something negative, like the destruction of once beautiful rainforests.  They displayed some excellent artistic skills and creativity. Many concepts were interesting and unique.

School value ENQUIRY and GLOBAL CITIZEN

BVIS Hanoi x Dover Court - Cultural Exchange
Before Christmas, our BVIS Diploma students collaborated with students from Dover Court (our Nord Anglia school in Singapore) with a cultural exchange of information. This was part of the exploration of the International Links section of their Asdan Gold Award. Our students made a video in which they gave lots of information about Vietnam, including live videos that they filmed themselves at restaurants and near Hoan Kiem lake. The students from Singapore gave a detailed presentation on the different religions and their lifestyles in Singapore that make it such a multicultural place.

Global Campus International Film Festival
This popular competition allows new and budding film makers of all ages to make a short video to showcase their talents in either a narrative, documentary, or animation style! The theme for 23/24 is ‘Digital Connectedness Across our NAE Family’. From pressing one button, we are in touch with people around the world in an instant. Through film, students are encouraged to share their take on how we can, or might, connect across our NAE family using technology.

There are three main categories: Documentary, Narrative and Animation. Students must choose which category they will enter for the Film Festival and teachers need to specify which category the students have entered.  The films must be no more than 500MB, and the preferred file type should be Mp4. For Documentary, the video should be no longer than 6 minutes, for Narrative, no longer than 5 minutes, and for Animation, no longer than 2 minutes.

All entries need to be submitted to Mr. Ogden on or by Friday January 19th, and the school winners will be judged by a panel of staff and the Global Campus Student Leaders. The winning entries will then be submitted to be judged in the global round.

More information can be found at this link: Course: Art, Design, Media: International Film Festival (nae.school) or students can contact Mr. Ogden in S224 in person or on Teams if they have any questions.
