Matt is a senior Chemistry teacher and science leader whose career has taken him from London classrooms to Australian schools and onto the deck of the tall ship Alexander von Humboldt II. With nearly twenty years of teaching experience across the UK, Australia, and at sea, his practice is grounded in evidence-informed strategies, with a strong focus on formative assessment, EAL accessibility, and active learning.
His teaching blends academic rigour with curiosity, global awareness, and real-world application. Matt designs lessons that are clear, accessible, and intellectually challenging, and he is known for creating structured learning environments that support both high achievement and student wellbeing. He has held leadership roles in curriculum design, assessment development, and team mentoring, bringing a collaborative, student-centred approach to every school community he joins.
Matt is passionate about building strong relationships and helping young people develop confidence in complex scientific thinking. At BVIS, he is focused on building a science department where every student feels challenged, supported, and genuinely curious about the world.
Outside the classroom, he is happiest in a good café or out in nature — walking, riding, or simply being.
