Global Classroom in Secondary - November 2014

14 November 2014

We are delighted to announce that 20 teams of students have signed up to participate in the Global Classroom Secondary School Debate League!

Students will work together to compete against teams from within the Nord Anglia family of schools.  The first debate topics are now live. Lower Secondary (Years 7-9) students are debating the motion ‘Students learn better if they have access to mobile devices.’ We have 12 teams in this league competing against schools from China, Switzerland, the Middle East and North America. In Upper Secondary (Years 10-13) we have 4 teams competing against students from Guangzhou, Houston, and College Champittet on the motion ‘Machine intelligence is more reliable than human intelligence.’

Opening statements must be posted by Monday 17 November, and we look forward to following what is sure to be an exciting competition!

The deadline for applications for the Young Journalist Academy is fast approaching too. Students from year 9 and above who enjoy writing and are interested in finding out more about how to think and write like a journalist should log on to the Global Classroom and complete an application form as soon as possible, as places are limited.

The first online learning New Horizons cohorts are now engaged with their courses on the Space Race. Course materials and forums for both the Intermediate and Advanced groups are live. We hope the BISB students participating enjoy this new and exciting way to learn.

Future courses on Forensic Psychology and Computer Coding will be live later this year.

In other news we look forward to getting back to work with our Big Challenge Lead Group in Enrichment from next week. We have an exciting whole school project on Children’s Rights which we hope to unveil soon!
