Cricket tournament in Munich

17 March 2014

Read an update and results from the last cricket tournament in Munich

BISB vs Basel

A combination of wide balls and nerves cost us a potential win, we did however fight to the very end and all our batsmen displayed moments of batting brilliance to bring the game to within 30 runs. Michael's captaining decisions with the batting partnerships added to our high score of 69 runs with just five batsmen.

BISB vs Wien 2

Playing against the tournament favorite Vienna proved a difficult test, with much improved bowling and a fantastic wicket taken by Sam in the 5th over we managed to stem Vienna's usual high scoring to a mere 75 runs. Unfortunately their experienced bowlers quickly dispatched our batsmen with ruthless efficiently, leaving our last two batsmen, Santiago and Josh, an impossible hill to climb, they did however proudly manage to put us on the score board with some great batting and well timed runs.

BISB vs Wien 1

In our second match again against tournament favorites Vienna we kept our composure and batted extremely well, especially Josh who was retired after a collective half century.  We bowled with much more focus and with some reactionary fielding and wicket keeping we took four wickets from very experienced Vienna players. In the end though Vienna were just too strong and dominated both of our encounters together.

BISB vs Munich Lions

Two early wickets dented our chances of a first possible win. With all eight of our players having the chance to bat we scored a respectable 68 runs, with the team captain Michael scoring the maximum before being retired. The realization of a win created a tense but excited atmosphere when it was our turn to bowl the second innings. This match proved to be the best of the intermediate tournament going down to the last ball of the last over, Sam bowled two faultless overs and we only needed to hold the last two batsmen to 66 runs. Munich had no choice but to play for a draw and run on the last ball, they did and made one more run with only centimeters to spare. The tournament organizer personally thanked everyone of the players from both teams, adding that the 'goose bumps' from watching our match took 10 minutes to go down!

BISB vs Hessen

Steady bowling from all our players kept Hessen to a reachable 81 runs. Although Very fast accurate bowling from Hessen quickly dispatched two of our most experienced players, leaving the rest of the team a mountain to climb. Two more batsmen lost wickets and another great strike from Victor was unfortunately caught, despite this we still managed a respectable 58 runs, frustratingly short of a winning score. A huge well done to every player representing BISB this weekend.
