Primary Earth Day

30 April 2014

Our goal was to give secondary students an opportunity to peer teach in primary. We planned interactive, fun activities such as craft workshops, obstacle races and a quiz, to remind the children about recycling and saving resources. We enjoyed it and so did they!

Read the feedback from two of our student leaders who ran the activities:

Overall what do you feel you have learned from this activity? What new skills have you developed? What have you learned about yourself as a person, your strengths and weaknesses? Did you achieve your aims and goals?

"We did achieve our aims and goals. We managed to spread the message about how important it is to take care of the planet, and that if we do recycle, we are helping. We had to prepare everything and be organised in order for it to all run smoothly.  I learned that I'm good when it comes to working collaboratively with my peers to organise such events, and I realised that I am interested in working with children. I had to speak in public and introduce the team, which I didn’t find easy. I think this is one of my weaknesses."

Maria, IB student – Student Leader

What did this activity mean to you and why was it a worthwhile and valuable CAS activity? What do you feel about it? How did it make others feel?

"It was a worthwhile CAS activity  as the environment is continually becoming more polluted, and it is important to raise awareness about this issue.  Children, in particular, should learn to appreciate the environment around them, and they should be taught what it takes to preserve it."

Jonas, IB student – Student Leader
