We are starting our new season of the International Award Programme in school. This is a globally recognised award that aims to provide a range of different opportunities for the personal development of young people. The fundamental philosophy of the Award is that participants make progress during the time they are involved in the activities, it is not about achieving a set standard or level.
The Award
The Award is for young people from the ages of 14 (or those who will be 14 during this academic year) to 25. It is divided into 3 levels, Bronze, Silver and Gold, each of which requires increasing amounts of commitment. The participants at the British International School will all begin at the Bronze level in Year 9 or Year 10. Within each level, participants are required to complete 4 sections, Physical Activity, Skill, Service and Adventurous Journey.
On Monday 19th January we will hold an introductory session for both parents and students. It will be at school in the Library and will start promptly at 4.00pm. The session will last approximately 1 hour and it will be a chance for all who are interested to find out more about The Award and ask questions as necessary. If you will be attending this meeting please complete and return the slip attached. Please note there will not be a late bus home.
After this initial meeting those students who would like to participate in The Award will need to complete an application form and return it to school to confirm their interest. We will also take into account each student’s attitude and behaviour. Upon acceptance on the scheme participants will be asked to pay a registration fee (13€ for Bronze level and 19€ for Silver level) and will be issued an access to the Online Record Book, where they keep record of their progress and supporting material.
Please indicate if you wish to attend the meeting on Monday so that we can make seating arrangements.
Thank you,
