Organising Stužková was a challenge for us, not from the point of it being an excessively complicated event, but from the point of us having to cooperate and organise ourselves. As in every community, the leaders had to stand up and take the initiative. I think this experience has definitely bonded us as a group.
Thanks to our choreographer, Taehui, we were able to deliver an entertaining programme with dances to different popular songs such as ‘Summer Nights’ from ‘Grease’. The majority of the year-group participated in this and it was enriching for all of us.
Some videos and presentations followed, with the purpose of further entertainment. Stužková is a celebration, therefore the comedy was very appropriate and gave our Stužková a personal feel.
We think it was very important to celebrate Stužková as it is a Slovak tradition and expat families had a chance to experience this and therefore be more involved with Slovak culture. Understanding and sharing experiences is what makes a community bond and is definitely an important part of all of our lives. Long may Stužková remain a part of BISB culture also.
