Marvelous Mapping Measuring!!

29 April 2016

As part of their Olympic project, Year 3 had lots of fun exploring the impact of hosting the games and then considered where they will host the Year 1 and 2 sports day.

We went and looked at the features of our outside space- the hard concrete playground; the soft, rubbery bubble areas, the astroturf.  We looked at the grassy areas, the sandpit and the location of tables, bins and exits.
Working in groups and measuring carefully we recorded measurements.  Back in class we considered the size and shape of different areas whilst we drew maps of the school grounds.  We had to use a key to show the use of land and particular features.
At first this seemed like Miss Cook had given us an impossible task, but by working together, breaking it down into smaller bits and using our maths measuring skills, meant that we had lots of fun and were very successful!
