Year 13 IB English trip to Vienna

23 September 2016

On Tuesday of this week, the Year 13 IB English B class joined forces with the German B class for a joint trip to Vienna.

The English B students took on “The Third Man” tour, an engaging and demanding tour of Vienna’s heart, looking at the history and making surrounding the famous Orson Wells and Trevor Howard fronted, eponymous Carol Reed film from 1949.

Students have studied the Graham Green novelette, in preparation for their Written Assignment.

If you don’t know the film, I can only recommend it to you: Essential film noir cinematography full of shifting shadows, feverish music; stiff upper lipped Englishmen, a denouement in the sewers, all set in an exhausted post war Vienna divided between the Russians, the Americans, the French and the British.

In other words post war propaganda, moral superiority and derring do.

Oh, and The Third Man Museum is an amazing experience.
