Y12 German B trip to Vienna

09 October 2017

Last Tuesday, Year 12 German B students visited Vienna. The visit of Austrian’s capital was a unique opportunity to use the German language in practise, to learn new facts about Viennese history and to get to know the culture of Vienna.

We chose the rainiest day of the week but never mind, we enjoyed every second. First we visited the Time Travel Museum where the students learnt a lot about the history of Vienna, enjoyed a 5D show of medieval Vienna, had a private audience by the Habsburg family and experienced the bomb shelter in the old St. Michael’ s monastery.

Part of everyday culture is to have a lunch in an “Imbiss” – German fast food with sausages. Year 12 students ordered all the different kinds of “Wurst” – Grillwurst, Käsekrainer or Bratwurst all in German.

Then was the time to meet our guide, Inge. During our tour, it was raining very hard so we had to hide in a typical Viennese “Konditorei” , which since 2012 is part of the UNESCO cultural heritage. Students enjoyed the warmth of the coffee house, the delicious cakes and diverse kinds of coffee.

Packed up with knowledge about the Viennese history and richer in experiencing the Viennese genius loci, we arrived safely home.

Students of German B High Level will use their Vienna experience in their productive piece of work to create a brochure.
