This all begins as a baby where tummy time is integral to a child's physical development. Strengthening our core and arms is so important when we are little to help develop our fine motor skills and climbing is integral for establishing strength in our shoulders and elbows. Once these have developed we look to strengthen the wrist and pincer grip. After this process we should be ready to write!
In Early Years at BISB we ensure appropriate activities are set up to improve all of these skillsso that we can enhance the children's progression. Activities include dough gym where we press, squeeze and squash dough to strengthen our grip; picking up small items with tweezers and transferring them; threading small beads; using chopsticks; and squeezing oranges and lemons. These are just a few examples of what we offer to improve our fine motor skills.
