Year 9 students learned about the concepts behind fractals in Mathematics lessons last week and then tried their hands at constructing their own! They used isometric paper to draw the third iteration of the Koch snowflake (which was the inspiration for the logo of last year’s ISMTF Middle School Maths competition) and were then introduced to the Sierpinski and Menger gaskets. To wrap it all up, the entire year group got to work on a Christmas tree involving all three of these famous fractals, and it is now proudly displayed in Mrs Eastwood’s office. Bet you didn’t know a bit of Maths could make the holidays look even nicer!
