Over the following couple of weeks, our many groups gave performances in various assemblies at school, at the Christmas Markets in Hviezdoslavovo Square in Bratislava city centre, Dolinskeho special school and at our Dolinskeho site for our youngest pupils. One of the highlights was the girls’ choir and flute choir performing for dignitaries at the British Chamber of Commerce Christmas Party. Many people remarked how professional the pupils were and what an amazing sound they made.
The Christmas Concert at school on 13th December saw 12 different musical ensembles perform from our youngest pupils in Young Voices and Rocket Strings to our Staff Choir and the newly formed Community Choir who gave their debut performance. An epic performance with 25 pieces of music the 90-minute concert was very well received. A wide variety of music was performed with many Christmas songs being heard and some classical classics such as Ode to Joy by Beethoven (Rocket Strings) and The Moldau by Smetna (String Stars). The school orchestra provided the theme tune from 007, a Christmas Day movie favourite, and the Community Choir sang a spiritual Bring Me Little Water Silvy. A highlight of the concert was Staff Choir, Boys’ Choir, Girls’ Choir and the Community Choir joining to sing Gaudete, with almost 50 voices on stage this performance was amazing! After this performance even more performers took to the stage with the handbells, junior choir and young voices joining the singing and string stars performing on their instruments as everyone, audience included, performed ‘We wish you a Merry Christmas’ leaving everyone feeling very festive.
The Music Department’s final engagements of the season were Embassy visits with the Boys’ and Girls’ Choirs visiting the embassies of the UK and Germany and the Junior Choir and Handbells visiting the embassies of the USA and South Korea. The pupils represented BISB fantastically well and gave great performances.
We are extremely proud of all our musical children at BISB, they have worked very hard this term and deserve a wonderful relaxing break. We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all in the BISB Music Department.
