Year 1 visited the Fire station

On Wednesday last week Year 1 set off by bus to visit the Dubravka Fire Station.  We wanted to learn about what fire fighters do and how they help us.

This was part of our topic work about people who help us, both in school and in the wider community.  We have had visits from an ER nurse, a surveyor and an emergency worker.  We also toured the school and interviewed the kitchen staff, front office ladies and Mrs. Warmington about their work.

At the Fire Station we got a chance to try out lots of things.  Everyone tried on a fireman's hat and had a go aiming at a cone with the strong water hoses.  It was great fun and a little bit wet! The firemen showed us what they do in a real emergency, sliding down the pole and zooming out of the station with their sirens blazing.  It was very exciting.  Quite a few of us have decided that we would like to be fire fighters when we grow up.
