Physics this year

As ever we have had a busy year in Physics, with the return of many favourites and some new introductions.

Our Year 10 and Year 13 students visited the Energoland interactive centre in Mochocve, where  they learned about Nuclear power and other forms of Alternative Energy Resources.

In March we had a record number of students taking on the intellectual rigours of the Y11 Oxford University Physics Challenge, with 22 brave students taking the exam. As usual our students did themselves and the school very proud, achieving 17 Commendations; 4 Bronze 1 levels and for the first time ever a Silver award. So congratulations to all of these future Physicists!

In conjunction with Key Stage 2, we had the inaugural visit of the Mobile Planetarium to the school.  It was an excellent day and the students were able to watch a film about the Origins of the Universe, projected onto the inside surface of the portable inflatable dome of the Planetarium, giving it a 3D effect, with surround sound. It was an excellent and enjoyable introduction to their topic on Earth and Space.

As a joint visit between Maths and Science all of the Year 9 students went to the interactive Science/Maths/Engineering centre here in Bratislava, called Aurelium. This was the first time we have made such a visit, as the centre is newly opened, but we had such an excellent time, that I am sure it will become a firm favourite in the future.
