Wien Ausflug

Last Tuesday, October 2nd, Year 12 German B and German Ab Initio students visited Vienna. The visit to the Austrian capital was a unique opportunity to use the German language in practice, to learn new facts about Viennese history and to learn about the culture of Vienna which is an important part of our topic Identities in German B lessons.

On that day we had all types of weather you can imagine – rain, wind, sun… but never mind we enjoyed every second. We started our day with a guided tour with Karl, a born Viennese who showed us not only the well-known places of Vienna like Hofburg, Spanische Hofreitschule and the Stefansdom but also explained to us what the Kaffehauskultur is. Since 2012 it is a part of the UNESCO cultural heritage. We used this opportunity to eat a light lunch in the Konditorei Sluka while some others went to Imbiss where they have the typical sausage.

After lunch we had to rush for our museum visit. The Time Travel show offers a unique history experience. The 5D cinema, bombing shelter and black plaque tomb show and explain in an engaging way the history of Vienna.

Our trip was rounded-off by a short visit to the Demmel, another Konditorei with delicious cakes and coffee.

Short stories the students have to write about their visit will round up the topic Identities which we were covering in our classes for the whole month of September.
