DofE Silver

Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award Qualifying Expedition, 10th to 12th October

13 of our Year 11 and 12 students set out on their assessment weekend for their Silver Award. Already these students had completed a 3-day walk in Austria to improve their navigation and outdoor skills. This weekend they set about proving to the assessor that they have the skills to meet the requirements. They had their journey on the Czech/Slovak border.

To pass this section of the award students need to prove that they can read a map and a compass, create a route that lasts 7 hours a day for 3 days, be able to navigate that route in real life, and work as a group to do this. They have to carry everything they need for the three days in their backpacks, and at camp they must put up their tent and cook for themselves.

Both groups did amazingly well, demonstrating that their navigation skills have improved since their training, as well as their ability to cook pasta. They both worked extremely well as teams, helping and supporting each other along the way, and even singing to keep up their spirits.

The DofE team are very proud of their hard work and grit and are looking forward to these students finishing the other sections of the award so that they can gain their Silver Certificates.
