Nursery Cooking

Cooking is not only an engaging activity for children but also a fantastic way to observe them develop many skills. We encourage self-direction and independence as the children take turns to measure and pour in the ingredients into the bowl.

They help each other as one holds the bowl while the other child takes their turn to mix or pour. Cooking skills, whether it be chopping, squeezing, spreading, rolling and mixing, help develop a child’s small muscle control and eye-hand coordination. Even those children who are less enthusiastic about physical play, such as ‘playdough play’, often can’t resist cooking with the knowledge there will be something delicious to eat at the end!
