In total 50 schools (170 students) from all over Europe and beyond competed (even a school from China!). Although we did not come home with any trophies, our students were enthused by the level of mathematics they experienced. They also enjoyed a very quick walking tour of Rome, seeing the Coliseum (from the outside) and the many other beautiful sites in the city.
Some comments from Haesin Lee, Chungwoo Nam and Yunseo Kim:
“pleased I scored higher than the overall winner in one of the individual rounds”
“It was a good experience. There were a few questions I could not answer.”
“I really want to answer those tricky questions and study more maths.”
Congratulations to Yunseo, Haesin and Chungwoo for their efforts. Our top student was Yunseo who was only one point off a Top 20 finish out of 175 students! It was great to see our students challenged by the experience, and we hope they carry on with their interest in maths both in and out of the classroom.

ISMTF Senior Mathematics Competition
This year’s competition was held at the British School of Warsaw and saw over 200 students competing from schools throughout Europe, northern Africa and the Middle East. Our school was represented by Meky Liu (13), Lily Yu and Josh Silverberg (12) and the young team of Junseo Hwang, Yoonjung Kim and Minwoo Jung (11).
The host school prepared a fantastic competition and free-time programme. We enjoyed an Imax film in the evening on Saturday called Hubble 3D that we highly recommend and had a chance to see Warsaw’s Old Town on Sunday.
The students earned some good experience at this competition and returned highly motivated. They have already begun working to improve upon their results at next year’s competition!
Go for it, team!
