Waste Management Plan at BIS Events

22 March 2018

The eco-committee has used various ways to raise awareness about the importance of recycling and reducing waste over the last few years and established a system at school. This school year, we have decided to take a step further and  improve the waste management at school events. The eco-committee cooperated with operations and the PTA to organise school events such as the Welcome to School Barbeque and International Day without single-use plastic items.  You might know that plastic cutlery, plates and cups were replaced by paper or biodegradable ones.
We also worked on reducing and recycling waste during Primary Disco.

Based on our experience, we have produced a waste management plan for school events. This document has been approveed by the school's management and should be followed by any event organiser. The main points of this document are:

1.    use all possible ways to reduce the waste production

2.    avoid producing plastic waste (no single-use plastic items)

3.    recycle all recyclable waste

Ideally one day, all events organised by the school will be zero waste but for now we want to reduce waste the best we can.
