Don’t forget, this year we are focusing on Goals 11 (Sustainable Communities) and 12 (Responsible Consumption). As part of this we are thinking about how we can “reduce, reuse, recycle and refuse” single use plastics such as straws, bottles and disposable cutlery. If you want to learn more about making #SmallChanges you can join #PlasticFreeJuly. Across Primary, our children have learned how ‘every little helps’ and are switching off lights in empty rooms, making sure their waste goes in the correct recycling bins and bringing reusable bottles to school for their water.
If you would like to learn more about “going green” or want some fun activities to do with your child, some useful websites are:
Kids Go Green - lots of information about reducing, reusing and recycling, plus puzzles and quizzes
Earth Rangers - a Canadian website to encourage kids to protect animals and the environment
Eco Kids - another Canadian website packed full of information, activities and advice on living in a more environmentally responsible way.
Global Campus/UNICEF Student Summit, New York
As we highlighted in previous issues of the Newsletter, we are delighted to be sending students to New York in July to participate in the UNICEF student summit and the United Nations High Level Political Forum on the Global Goals for Sustainable Development.
Unfortunately one of our original Student Ambassadors, Amy, has had to pull out of the trip due to being selected to represent Slovakia at the World Debating Finals. We are delighted for Amy, who has shown herself to be an articulate and passionate speaker during our participation in the UNICEF summit in Bulgaria at the start of this school year. We wish her success at the competition, which she has been working towards competing in for many years.
We are lucky at BISB to have so many articulate and passionate students who wish to represent our school community in New York and are therefore delighted to announce that Noam (Year 10), who was a runner up in the original selection process, will travel to the student summit. She will join Greg (Year 10) and Yoonjung (Year 11), giving us three Student Ambassadors at the event. We know they will represent us very well and look forward to hearing about their experiences next term.
